In a recent development within the Japanese cosmetics giant Shiseido, Alberto Noé has been appointed President and CEO of the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, succeeding Franck Marilly who held the position since 2018.
This transition, effective since January 2023, marks a new era for Shiseido EMEA, a crucial region for the brand’s international development.
Alberto Noé, a veteran of the beauty industry, joins Shiseido after an impressive career that has seen him hold leadership positions at L’Oréal, Lancôme in Italy, LVMH, and Chanel. Noé joined the Shiseido group in 2013 as General Manager and President of the Italian market, before taking over the commercial development of all EMEA markets in 2019.
His appointment as Deputy CEO of Shiseido EMEA in January 2023 was the final step before assuming his current role.
The transition comes with a change in role for Franck Marilly, previously at the helm of Shiseido EMEA, who becomes Chairman of the Board of the region.
In his new role, Marilly will focus on overseeing the company’s governance and its subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with ethics, transparency, and regulatory standards. This responsibility is crucial to maintain Shiseido’s reputation and smooth operation in the region.
The context of these appointments is particularly relevant, as Shiseido experienced an 8.8% decline in sales in 2023, mainly due to poor performance in China and Travel Retail.
However, the company also reported double-digit growth in several regions, including Japan, the Americas, EMEA, and the Asia-Pacific, anticipating a 2.8% rebound in revenue for the upcoming fiscal year.
Shiseido also announced a business transformation plan in Japan, including 1,500 voluntary departures, representing nearly 4% of its global workforce.
This initiative reflects the group’s efforts to adapt to market changes and position the company for sustainable future growth.
The appointments of Noé and Marilly are part of a broader strategy to strengthen Shiseido’s presence in the global market and navigate through present and future challenges.
Their experience and leadership are seen as crucial to achieving the brand’s ambitions in the EMEA region and beyond.
